Hemp products: Like its close cousin Cannabis, hemp plants have thousands of benefits. It is the strongest natural fiber globally, which explains why it has been used since time immemorial. From clothing, handbags, shoes, fabrics to paper, soaps, and shampoo, hemp’s locus of use knows no bounds. Nepal’s relation with this magical plant has a glorious history: the famed “Hippie-trail” in the 1960s, which originated in Istanbul and culminated in Kathmandu, inspired countless peripatetic nomads to make a pilgrimage to the Marijuana capital of the yesteryears—Kathmandu. Although political realities have altered the international perception of hemp over time, Nepal’s love affair with hemp has stood firm, and, still today, hemp’s use in clothing is in vogue.
